Coherent pluralism is a term introduced to stimulate the debate on social dynamics and to offer a prospective vision on how different ideologies can still coexist in society. It is a move away from the traditional monolithic decision-making regimes of the past, whereby power and authority are centralized and divergence of opinions is seen as ‘wrong’ or ‘insignificant’. Instead, under coherent pluralism, efforts are made to see the validity in different ideological positions and individual autonomy is acknowledged, leading to a more complex but diverse and balanced social order.
